Local Activities

Farley Croft makes an ideal retreat for a group of family or friends at any time of the year. Situated at the foot of the Howgill Fells, a favorite of Wainwright, there is excellent walking, and cycling country on your doorstep. The unspoilt small market town of Sedbergh has cobbled yards and historic buildings.

It is a short downhill walk to the main-street with local facilities (bank, post-office, chemist etc), an excellent fish&chip shop, lively pubs, cafes and a good range of shops, arts and crafts and outdoor gear. There is also a Wednesday market. For Golf fans there is a Golf course nearby, occasionally invaded by a few sheep or two!

There are frequent interesting local events such as the Medieval Charter Fair in August and Book Festival in September. Sedbergh has been named as England’s official book town with numerous antiquarian and second hand bookshops. For those with young children Holme Open Farm is a great day out. Further afield the rest of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks are within easy reach with fabulous scenery and many tourist attractions.
